I found peace when I started living in acceptance of what can’t be controlled
Knowing when an emotion needs to be experienced
And when it needs to be politely shown the door
Then I discovered forgiveness
And not some surface-level shit
But a distinct inner knowing that not everyone is going to understand your intentions
I don’t think forgiveness always needs to be a grand gesture
It’s not wrapped in a neat bundle of joy
And it does not, unfortunately, mean that everything will be ok
Forgiveness can distance you from the people you once had a close bond with
And it can bring you closer to those who heal with you
The time in between can be difficult
But I don’t play with fire and expect to stay perfectly safe
So I’ve found that forgives is pretty peaceful
